MISSION

Developing research, development and innovation programs while ensuring the training of highly qualified personnel to control infectious diseases in animal production, thereby promoting animal welfare, sustainable development, and public health in the agri-food sector.

Mission
Axes

AXIS

AXIS I - Transversal and Multidisciplinary Research

Understanding the mechanisms of infectious diseases. Controlling and preventing infections in animal production.

AXIS II - Sustainable Animal Production

Developing tools to ensure that animal production maintains its economic and social value by improving animal health and well-being.

AXIS III - One Health

Addressing the risks associated with infectious diseases at the intersection of animal health and public health (zoonoses and food safety). Developing strategies to reduce antimicrobial resistance.

HISTORY

In 1982, prompted by a small group of professors, including Drs. Larivière, Higgins, Lallier, and Mittal, with Dr. Martineau at the helm, at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Montreal, a research group was established to address an infectious issue that was threatening the swine production industry in Quebec.
